Write Now: Artists and Letterforms
As curatorial assistant to Nathan Mason in the very early stages of the exhibition's evolution, I contributed to the overall implementation of the show, while also appearing as a featured exhibiting artist. My site-specific piece, created solely for the purpose of this show, displays typographic designs, drawings, and doodles that have transpired over the past 5 years in preparation for a wide range of projects and commissioned works. My individual scraps, while engaging as stand alones, come together to form a large collage that visually embodies the metaphorical “brain dump” that is all too representative of my artistic process.
Write Now, currently on view at the Chicago Cultural Center, emerged as a response to and supplementary exhibition of Visible Language: Inventions of Writing in the Ancient Middle East at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago.
The show runs through April 29, 2012.
