Variations on a Theme

Spawning from numerous movement studies created while at live jazz showcases, Variations on a Theme is a body of work which inserts free form, improvisational mark making into the visual vernacular of much more rigid systems such as drafting and sign painting. Utilizing visual contradiction, my goal is to create a dialog around art versus design and aesthetic versus systematic decisions made during the making process.

Some results of this project are included in the inaugural issue of Plastics, a publication risograph printed in Zurich initiated by Ronny Hunger and Damien Tran.
