Neighborhoods Typeface

Neighborhoods is a custom typeface commissioned by Pitch Design Union for the West Town Chamber of Commerce. The face was to be used for various neighborhood-identifying banners in Chicago's extremely diverse West Town area including Wicker Park, Ukrainian Village, Humboldt Park, Division Street, Noble Square and more. The mission was to create a typeface that feels authoritative and traditional while still appealing to all residences of different neighborhoods, various age groups and different cultural backgrounds. Inspired by Chicago's long tradition of hand painted signage, references included various classic character sets created as reference for sign painting instructional couses created mostly in and around the 1950s.
